Hello Kit,

I have the same old question, is Rocky Point safe to travel. I am so disappointed I just discovered how great RP was a few years ago and now everyone is telling us how dangerous it is to drive there from Phoenix! Really need a beach fix! I could only find a post from you for November.

Please advise.
Gretchen

Hi Gretchen:

I've been writing for the new City website www.rpcal.com so please save this in your FAVORITES and pass the link along to your friends.

In answer to your question...Of course it's safe! I don't understand why people continue to believe that Rocky Point isn't safe? Did you know that there are more than 3,000 Americans that live in RP? Why would we live there if it wasn't? Just last weekend we had hundreds of visitors for the Roger Clyne Concert. Why would they come if it wasn't safe?

I travel almost weekly back and forth "by myself" as my husband works in Phoenix and we still own a home there. I have NEVER had a problem in all these years and don't expect to. We have never had an incident involving an American in RP and the city has put millions into updated vehicles, equipment, roads, and an expanded police force just to make visitors feel welcome and safe. more info

There has never been an incident involving drug cartel on Hwy 8 from Sonoyta to Penasco. The road is well traveled, and well patrolled by Peñasco, Sonoyta, and Federal officers. In addition, I have never made a trip without seeing a Green Angels vehicle which patrols the road 24/7 to assist stranded vehicles. There are even signs posted now with a number to dial in case of emergency 066.

If I have not convinced you to come back to Rocky Point, please visit a few other popular Mexico Tourism related websites and get others opinions. Next time you hear something negative about Mexico on the news, try to note "where in Mexico" they are talking about. You willl then understand that these incidents are not happening even close to Rocky Point. People forget just how big a country Mexico is. It's like saying you're not going to Florida for vacation because there was a shooting in Chicago. Get my point?

Hope to see you at the beach soon!

Kit,

Thank you for your quick response! I am forwarding this to all my friends. I think I may (or you may) have my husband convinced we can make the trip in march.

Hooray Grethcen!  Here's a video shared by a concert goer that will surely help alleviate your fears!

Sarah Madison I created this video set to Mexican Moonshine to show off Puerto Peñasco since I'll be getting married there the night before the Circus Mexicus show.

I invite all readers to share their travel experiences in the hopes of encouraging visitors to rediscover Rocky Point.
